GUYS THIS IS SERIOUS. WE ARE NOT PLAYING FOOTBALL. WE ARE BECOMING PALER. WE ARE GETTING FAT. CRAP! WE'RE TURNING INTO OBESE ENGLISH FOOTBALL FANS!!!

So let us get back to the lush green (or dusty) fields this June. What say? Or would you rather draw parallells between Wayne Rooney and Pele this summer?

That has got to be the worst poll in the history of bad polls! Shocked

Yeah...I'll play. But I'll probably be out of town for a week after exams.

Truly terrible poll. How the last two can even be included in the same list as the first two is beyond me. Baal poll.

Ah, the last two names seem not to make sense because most of us have sense. However the English fan would have you believe Roonaldo is up there. And there are a few (mostly Asian) peoples who think Beckham is God like some think Amitabh Bachchan is...

Besides...here lies THE question...who was better, Pele or Maradona? Both have won FIFA Player of the Century awards; Pele the choice of the pundits, pros and ex-pros while Maradona was the fans'.

Names unfortunately missing from that group would include Cryuff,Best,Zico,Eusebio,Lev Yashin,Franz Beckenbauer, etc etc...

Oh and add names to this incomplete list, as long as you don't intend to add Gascoine or Rooney.

Pele, unlike Maradona, didn't score goals with his hand.

Although I have only been able to watch a few of them play...however some of their careers have been fantastic.

Lothar Matthäus, Zinédine Zidane, Dennis Bergkamp, Platini, Clarence Seedorf, Oliver Kahn. These are some of the names that come to mind at present.

Spoken like a true England fan, bhoot! Smile
But it's true. He did. What we don't know is whether all of Pele's 1000+ career goals were fair or not. But I do think he is the better of the two.

Ferenc Puskas, Uwe Seeler and how about Roger Milla?

Why are we insulting Pele and Maradona by comparing them to Wayne Rooney? Shocked

I wouldn't add Buffon to this list. Honestly...what does he have to do? In the national team he has Nesta and Cannavaro(earlier Maldini) in front of him. For Juve he has Thuram and Cannavaro...

How much of work does this man actually do compared to someone like Oliver Kahn or Jens Lehmann with a pathetic defence in front of them? If I would nominate a goal keeper...I'd go for Iker Casillas. Now that man knows what its like to defend all alone! Laughing

I second that. But I still do rate Buffon.

buffon is without doubt the best goalie around now. admittedly, he doesn't have to make too many saves, but one of the reasons italy hasn't been scored against is his quite fabulous saves against ukraine, ozland and germany. the few that come his way are kept out. that's why i think he's right up there. as shevchenko said, if u're playing against buffon, u're already a goal down.

I do rate Buffon. However, I'd take Cech over him going by your framework.

Cech plays in the EPL which is known for its attacking, result-oriented approach. The Seria A is known for the defend-till-you-die setup.

Cech has an equally good defence sitting in front of him (Gallas, Carvalho, Terry). So on an average he'd have more work to do than Buffon.

I was wondering...has Buffon ever been involved in a high profile penalty shoot-out...if so...what was the result?
