Ah that's where you're wrong Sandy. The EPL may be known for it's attcking approach but the Serie A does have as many, if not more goals. Last season, for example, there were 2.61 goals per game in Italy. The EPL had 2.48 goals per game. So there were more goals in the Serie A where Buffon plays. So, on an average, Buffon actually has as much, if not more to do.

Ah...you're looking at clubs like Chelsea, Liverpool and Man Utd who had goal shy seasons last year. There were plently of 0-0 draws. Bolton have adopted a defensive approach as well.

However, if you consider the overall average on a per club basis...it will definitely paint a different picture. Honestly...can the Seria A ever dream of having goal scoring thrillers which go upto 7-8 goals? The mentality I was talking about is the defend-till-you-die one. Teams in the Serie A do not want to conceed...that is the problem.

Ummm...I disagree because I'm skeptical about stereotypes. I looked into it and 3 years ago Serie A had the most no. of goals in Europe. Also, last season the 4-4 between Chievo and Roma was the best game I got to see highlights of. Good goals. sadly we don't get matches.

Buffon was involved in the 2003 Champions League final penalty shoot-out between Juve and Milan. Juve lost. So Buffon is not invincible.

Buffon must have done something right, I'm sure!

Look at his girlfriend.

For that matter, even Barthez.

Penalties win you matches...and titles. I think Buffon chokes when it comes to penalties...and that for me is the difference between the best and a contender.

Buffon rocks, there's no denying it. But Iker Casillas is better. He's the most overworked Goalie alive. He single handedly keeps Madrid afloat.

Casillas sucks bigtime.he's been given all the hype coz he saved 2-3 odd penalties in a World Cup match.but since then, his performnace has been going down the drains.u think he keeps Madrid afloat single handedly,eh?methinks if that was so,then Madrid would have won something atleast over the last 2 years.look at Buffon on the other hand,no denying the fact he's got his country the World Cup.and he was beaten this year only by a Zaccardo sameside and a Zidane penalty.he thwarted some of the best strikers and playmakers in the World.I don't think there's been any goalie ever who's better than him except for Schmeichel,Chilavert and ofcourse...the legendary Lev Yassin.

Buffon barely touched the ball...er...actually he didn't touch the ball at all. Not even in the penalty shoot out. You could've put an Umpa Lumpa in goal behind that defence and still won the WC.

Incase you're wonder why Madrid have won squat...you might want to have a word with a certain Mr.Makelele now at Chelsea. Laughing

I don't think Jijo's been watching much La Liga. If it wasn't for the goalie Madrid would've conceded a goal per game more than they did for the last few seasons. Think about it. That's a serious stat there. And I mean that. If they'd had a very good keeper that figure would've been lower but more would've gone in than what Iker let in. So he's a really good keeper. The best in the world? That's a form thing. Casillas is in awesome form right now (almost as good as the last time Real won the CL.) Lehmann was in sublime form earlier this year. Who's the best? Really? How much does it matter? Either one of them is an asset any team would covet.
Oh and Buffon is really good too.

Buffon barely touched the ball?ahem!wonder how much World Cup u watched!or how much of the Italy matches u saw perhaps, to be more precise.if you get hold of the Match recordings,I can point out to you how many times he saved Italy from sure goals.and as for Casillas,I never said he's bad.he's okay...but I still don't think he deserves the hype he's surrounded by.oh there are a few like that.there's no denying the fact that they are great.but the media always does overdo things at times...for the wrong reasons.like Beckham...I mean I don't think he deserves to be in the same league with the likes of Zidane,Figo and some other greats of recent times.he's good no doubt, but not as good as what's said about him.yeah...true...Lehmann's cool...Casillas?I can point out several bloopers on his part.you might say who doesn't make mistakes, but even then...I mean...that's a personal opinion...maybe a bit prejudiced...but I'd still maintain he's just above average.

I thought you're the one trying to convince me! Shouldn't you be digging for footage? Wink

Jijo man, do us all a favour and actually WATCH some Real Madrid matches. Don't just go by what people say. Here's 2 facts, which my fellow La Liga watchers have already backed up: a) Casillas saves Real butt all the friggin time. Absolutely no denying that b) Oompa Loompa could have saved the penalties in the finals.
